JANAVANI
JANAVANI is a practice paper of the students of NISWASS. They learn to prepare news items,write features and articles for different categories of readers. Through instructors they learn to design titles, styles, cartoon, advertisements etc. Editing news items, writing reports and editorials are also taught to them by the instructors. This practice paper utlised by the Janavani Trust, and is published as daily newspaper, with additions, alteration and modifications. Students feel extremely satisfied and encouraged as their practical work finally finds place in the body of a daily newspaper.
It is appropriate here to spell and why students prefer to give it to the Janavani Trust to publish it as a daily Newspaper in Odia.
The daily newspaper, JANAVANI, published in Odia language from NISWASS is the voice of voiceless rural people of India to reflect their deprivation of Constitutional rights on the socio-economic and educational stream and to bring them into the notice of the general public. The basic objectives of JANAVANI are to develop the democratic sense and spirit among the people of the State.
The news is published with specific messages of National, International, Rural, Women and Child affairs, Dalits and Tribal problems, Sports and Cultural events. The publication of news in JANAVANI gives emphasis on the problems of people living in the remote forests and hills as well as rural areas. There illiteracy, health care, starvation due to poverty, migration of labourers in search of jobs, child labour, suffering from diseases due to lack of drinking water, inadequate supply of food grain and nutrition and provisions of agricultural facilities are being reflected as daily news of JANAVANI. It fights against the blind beliefs and controversial events of any religion or any political issues based on the superstitions. It has a strict advertisement policy and does not accept any from sources which violate the human rights of common people. It organises periodic workshops for the Grassroot Communicators and Reporters in collaboration with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) New Delhi. More than 4500 reporters so far have been trained by this Institute.
